The Short Version:
He promised a farm table and in return we gained a business...In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:16
Let me be clear when I say our business was created on mistake and failure.
After building our first home, we quickly realized we had a brand new house, but one empty home. Putting all of our original budget for furnishing into an unexpected downpayment at closing, we came home to quickly realize I had champagne taste on a water budget.
The very first thing you see when you walked into our house is the dining room. A GIANT, EMPTY DINING ROOM. I had my eye on a farm table that was about $3,000 at that time. Obviously that was way more money that we even had to our name at this point, but we needed a table.
Seeing my disappointment from the used table we accumulated, Kyle stepped in. He promised me that he would build a table that I would like better than the one we couldn't afford. He went to the store gathered up the materials and got to work.
In the mean time, I was hard at work trying to refinish some old furniture that was given to us. I wasn't going to let all my hard spent hours on Pinterest go to waste. Chalk paint here I come.
I took a break to go to the store to see my color options for the table. I knew I wanted something that looked like old wood. I selected a few colors and sat them all on the front porch while I went to retrieve a scrap piece of wood. Next thing I know I've spilled half of several colors all over the wood and the front porch. I began to mop up the colors when I was blown away by the beauty that I saw. As mad as Kyle was, he let me continue my accidental, experimental mess..This mess is now called "Barnwood", and is an ORIGINAL (wouldn't come off) to our home.
A few months later that table (The Eve) and that mess had become a full blown business, and is still our number one seller to this day.
It took us several weeks to come up with a name for our business. I had always wanted to own a business, and was putting so much thought into the name that I couldn't come up with anything. One day Kyle came to me with two very different bible verses to read over. After reading them, I knew that this was to be the name of our business. FIVE:SIXTEEN
